- Steve Kimball, Clasm Group

Are you tired of being stuck on the six-figure treadmill?

A select few have always known the truth: more effort is never the fix.

Those who leaped past a million stopped being the business.

Without the longer hours, working vacations, or being the only number anyone calls.

Because it was never about talent, luck or timing.

It's fixing the only thing standing between you and seven figures… You.

After clearing my own hurdle and spending years helping others do the same.

Now, for the first time, I'm pulling back the curtain.

WARNING: Handle with caution.

The author and publisher disclaim any liability for the loss of your position as the hardest-working, best-compensated employee in your own company. Use of these methods and strategies is at your own risk.

After building a one-man operation into a $30 million company.

Here's what I discovered about clearing the million-dollar hurdle that changed everything...

For years I ran my companies the way most owners run everything, every problem came to me, and I was fast enough to solve them.

A business is always taking on water somewhere. You fix one leak and another sprouts before you have finished patching the first. I was good at patching. That turned out to be the problem.

I was exhausted, irritable, and about as far from the point as it is possible to get. I built a company so I would own my time, and I had ended up the first and only number anyone called, seven days a week. That is not ownership. That is a job with worse hours.

Nothing was wrong with my effort. I just could not see which part of my own business was actually holding it back, and working harder was never going to show me.

You already did the hard part.

You've accomplished something most people only dream about: You've started a business. You have paying customers. You survived the early chaos of entrepreneurship.

But getting from six figures to seven is harder than anyone tells you. You are not the hardest-working employee in your company by accident. You built the job you now cannot leave.

Everyone says you need to:

  • "Just get more leads"

  • "Hire someone to take it off your plate"

  • "Work on the business, not in it"

  • "Put more into marketing"

  • "Get systems in place"

All true. All useless until you know which one is actually yours.

Every one of those is the right answer for somebody. Only one of them is the right answer for you, and picking wrong is how the last three years went.

You have the same twenty-four hours as every other business owner. The difference is some of them stopped spending three of those hours putting out fires they started themselves.

What got you here, won't get you there.

I'd bet there are business books piling up on the nightstand and hours of podcast advice you never had time to run. You spent marketing dollars that went nowhere and hired someone who lasted four months. And still the same number at the end of the year.

So the excuses start to sound reasonable. "I can't find anyone who cares as much as I do." "I can't afford good marketing." I said those exact things myself. None of it stuck because none of it was aimed at your problem. You were fixing somebody else's business.

Your business has one weakest link.

The owners who cleared a million did not find a better marketing channel or a bigger work ethic. They found the one part that was capping all the others and fixed that first. Ask any of them what changed and you get one specific answer, not a longer list.

  • Nothing moves the number like fixing the part that was holding it down.

  • Nothing gives you back a week like fixing the thing that was quietly eating it.

  • Nothing makes a good hire stay like a company worth staying in.

  • Nothing makes a business worth buying like one that keeps running when you are not in it.

Whether it is your pipeline, your people, your pricing, or the fact that everything still routes through you, the shape of the fix is the same. Find the one. Fix the one. Then move. What you cannot afford is another guess.

Not complicated. Specific.

You have read business books before. They were not wrong. They were just not written to you. A book for business owners in general has to assume your pipeline is fine, your hiring is fine, your pricing is fine, and hand you a little of everything. That is why you finished them agreeing with every word and changing nothing. What every other book had to assume:

  • That your situation is complicated: It is not complicated. It is specific, and nobody has ever looked at yours.

  • What this one does instead: The Scorecard in the back names your weakest section in ten minutes, so you know which chapters to read now and which ones can wait.

What readers are saying

Inside, you'll discover:

  • The Million-Dollar Scorecard, the diagnostic that names your weakest section in 5 minutes, so you know which parts of this book were written for you.

  • The One Simple Rule that stops most growth pushes from backfiring. Growth does not fix broken businesses, it exposes them, which is why last year's push cost you money instead of making it.

  • The speed-to-lead number that quietly decides who wins the deal. One study puts the swing at 391 percent, and almost nobody is measuring it.

  • Why "think like a plumber" is the most profitable sentence in this book, and which businesses are secretly in the urgency zone without realising it.

  • How to hire people who stay. Average tenure at Taradel was eight years, in an industry where that is close to unheard of.

  • The twenty percent of changes that drive eighty percent of your results, and how to tell which twenty percent is yours.

What another year really costs.

Let me be the cold rain on your parade. Another year of this looks like eighteen holes with the phone at your ear, technically on the course, spiritually in a conference room, your golf partners knowing more about your Q3 than your spouse does. Then the part nobody says out loud. If you do everything, you are the business. Nobody buys a business that can't run without you. You're locked in for life.

Here's the other half. You already cleared the hardest hurdle there is: you got people to pay you. That's not easy. So well done you. What's left is basic, fixable, and sitting in a short stack of chapters with your name on the cover. A few evenings of reading. That's the whole ask.

Jim Fitzgerald

About the author

Jim Fitzgerald has founded four companies across a thirty-five-year career. One of them, Taradel, cleared the million-dollar hurdle on its way to 25,000 customers and $30 million in annual revenue, making Inc.'s 5,000 fastest-growing list twelve straight years, a run only thirty-five other companies had matched at the time.

He grew up in a Boston housing project where the highest aspiration was a steady job at the post office. He spent years inside a CEO roundtable with founders running multimillion-dollar companies and discovered they were all stuck on the same handful of basic things, just in different combinations.

He is now co-founder of Paycile and lives in Richmond, Virginia.

You've read this far for a reason. Another year of the same number in December. The same fires before nine. The same watching someone with half your experience take the job you wanted, because they were free to chase it and you were on a truck fixing something. That gap does not close on its own, and it will not close by working harder. It closes when you find the one part holding the rest down.

Twenty-one dollars and a few evenings, or another year exactly like this one. Same fires. Same number. Take the leap or don't. But if you're ready to stop guessing, your copy is one click away.
